Being connected to life and those around you is one of the five ways to improve your mental wellbeing. Its mental health this week so we asked Chris How does he connect with others in Port Melbourne and what does this mean to you?
I participate in many groups and volunteer as much as I can. At the moment I volunteer as a concierge at Inner South Community Health, I have joined RAG theatre, roarhouse percussion group and comedy workshop group, the limelight film making and a cooking class. I also co organise a monthly social club . My family have many needs as well which I'm happy to help within my time frame. I dog walk and partake in saxophone lessons weekly as well.
The list I have given is my ticket to social connectivity. This provides me purpose and meaning to my life. Friends are made, family is happy and I am content. The only problem is finding a way to relax as I'm always on the go.
I think this is important for me as I feel a sense of belonging and people are happy to see me which makes me smile. My motto is busy is always good. I try not to think of dull moments because the momentum will stop going.
