3207 BeachPatrol has joined up with some local cafes to run a trial to replace plastic straws with paper straws. This is great for our local environment and the marine creatures that live in our bay. Plastic straws are one of the major single use plastic items that BeachPatrol volunteers pick up on our beautiful beaches. Plastic never breaks down it breaks into smaller pieces that marine animals ingest and ultimately it ends up in our foodchain. All the café owners of participating cafes said it was a problem they would love to see go away, and they didn’t have time to research into it more or had tried it a while ago and the straws didn’t work for them. Look out for the last plastic straw poster at participating cafes and show your support for the program.
