Bio: Daniel Pintado is an amateur filmmaker and writer living la vida loca in St Kilda West.  He has a streak of perfectionism so stifling it’s a miracle he managed to produce this video. He is a humorist, film-lover, bird-whisperer and, at the time of writing, braving yet another existential crisis. He is also vehemently opposed to lactose and gluten. He has no tolerance for them.

Sharing Community Meals
Father Bob Maguire is a cultural and spiritual icon who is ‘world famous’ in Melbourne. His unique brand of humour, moxy and social justice has enabled him to create the Father Bob Maguire Foundation. Sharing Community Meals is a short, documentary-style film paying homage both to Father Bob and to the host of volunteers, known affectionately as the ‘Bob Squad’, who share their time, energy, and vision for a tribe beyond definitions of ‘us’ and ‘them’ in Port Melbourne.

Photos of the Exhibition Launch thanks to Michelle Chan

The aim of the eighth PORTogether course was to gather stories of people sharing with each other, whether it be sharing a garden, sharing food, sharing time by visiting neighbours, sharing skills, sharing knowledge, sharing stories or sharing books.
There are ways in which we all
are involved in our communities through small acts of kindness or through larger organisations. What this group set out to find out was: "How do Port Melbourne residents share?"

Having an exhibition is a great way to celebrate what is happening in Port Melbourne and we sincerely thank Tracey McIrvine and her team for all the hard work and dedication they put in to make this Exhibition really great!

The Exhibition Launch was held on Tuesday 18th June 2019 at 6pm
It was a wintry Melbourne night but we had a crowd of almost 100 people come out to support the artists! Tracey McIrvine, the Visual Arts Manager of Gasworks Park was our MC and we were lucky enough to have counsellor Marcus Pearl to open, Karen Sait the CEO of PPCG to speak as well as Dani McCaffrey from Star Health (SHIP project) to celebrate the achievements of all the artists.

Throughout the course the participants not only uncovered heartwarming stories of people sharing with one another but they also shared with each other as a group.

We want to inspire other Port Melbourne residents to take up small acts of kindness through sharing their time, their skills or their knowledge.
If you have any stories of sharing that you'd like to contribute please email ship@starhealth.org.au or call Dani on 0459988353

    ACTIVE SHARING

The SHIP project (Social Health Inclusion Port) and PPCG (Port Phillip Community Group) have been running a photography and film course since 2014. This is the 8th iteration.
Active Sharing was the theme chosen by participants to explore in Port Melbourne. They discovered heartwarming and inspiring stories of people sharing with one another in the community.
